“I used to walk back home from school and take pictures of the sunset. That’s how it began.”

I grew up in Shimla and taught myself photography, first on a 2-megapixel phone camera my father gave me, then by posting pictures of home on Flickr until travel magazines started asking for them. I was freelancing before I finished college.

Since then I have photographed for The New York Times, BBC Travel, Condé Nast Traveller, National Geographic Traveller and Lonely Planet, spent a winter in Spiti for my book, and started businesses in the hills I photograph. I still live and work in the Himalayas.
